The pastor this past Sunday used the following verse from Proverbs as part of his message:
Proverbs 14:12 New International Version (NIV)
12 There is a way that appears to be right,
but in the end it leads to death.
While the entire message was good, it was this particular verse that stood out the most.
I am thinking about today. Too often today, we ignore what God has said or we have rewritten part of it to suit our needs all in an attempt to do what appears to be right.
Sin is sin and no matter how you spin it, God cannot be in the presence of sin. To rewrite His word or to twist the meaning does not change what He said and does not make what we think/say right.
I could make a huge list of what all the sins are and that would only be a fraction of it. God did not come to earth in the form of man so you could do what you wanted. He came here so we could have a way to be saved and to be in Heaven with Him.
Now although I say that sin is sin, that does not mean we as Christians have the right to abuse those that have committed the sin or to pass judgement on them. It is our responsibility to educate so we who are Christians can make disciples. It is also our responsibility to act the way Christ did and that is to love people no matter what. He did not go out call everyone a sinner, but loved them no matter what they had done. There was an exception and that was with the Pharisees and Sadducees because of their position and responsibilities. When the people that Jesus encountered acknowledged their sin, He would usually say something to the effect of “go and sin no more”.
I urge you to think about your life and really ask your the question of am I doing what I think is right, but in reality ignoring what God has said. If so, it is time for you to read the Bible and pray to God to guide you so that you can do what He considers to be the right thing versus what man thinks is right.
