Fasting

I mentioned in an earlier post that I am doing the 21 day fast.  I have also heard and read about people who are on a fast who are so concerned about what they are eating.  Stop it.

What is the purpose of any religious fast?  It is to get closer to God by praying, spending time with the Lord, and studying His word.  It is not about the food you eat or do not eat.

I read these posts and I am thinking Pharisees. They knew the law and live to the letter of the law, but they did not really understand the laws purpose.

So I repeat stop it.  If you want to know what you should or should not eat, then pray to God and ask him for guidance.  Look in the Bible for fasts and follow that if you are unsure or you feel your prayers have not been answered, but stop fretting over it.

People are like I do not want to offend God by eating the wrong thing.  However, all food has already been declared as clean.

Mark 7:19 New International Version (NIV)

19 For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean.)

So you will not offend the Lord by what you eat.  You will offend Him if you say you are not going to eat or drink something during your fast and knowingly do so.  You will offend Him when you do not follow his will.  To know His will you will have to pray and earnestly seek the answer to that prayer.

What I see if that people made commitments and now they are wanting to get around that commitment.  All I have to say is suck it up and keep that commitment, the fast will end.

I pray that whatever you are fasting for and what ever you have given up, that you find peace in that commitment.  Trust the Lord, He will help you through those tough times.  Just remember to keep your word.  In Jesus name I pray for this, Amen.
