Are you a slave to something? If you answered no, I highly advise you to rethink. Almost everyone is a slave to something.
There is a quote by Harriet Tubman that states “I freed thousands of slaves. I could have freed thousands more, if they had known they were slaves.” However, historians cannot find any sources where she actually said this. However, it is still true.
People do no realize they are slave to something such as:
- money
- sex
- drugs
- games
- lying
- anger
- hate
- religion
- appearance
- spending
- arguing
Now this list could go on to cover many pages, but I think you get the idea.
People could give up what they are a slave too, but then that leaves them facing a potential unknown. Lets face it, when we embark on something where we have no idea what the outcome is going to be, it can be very scary.
Think of the Israelite’s who were headed to the promise land. God had already shown them His power, but they really did not know God. When faced with what appeared to be a certain demise by the Pharaoh’s army, they wanted to go back to what they knew, slavery. When faced with hunger, they wanted to go back to being slaves. Then after they got to the promise land, they were afraid to face the inhabitants and take what God had promised them. They were scared of having freedom since they were so use to being slaves.
That is how we are today. We really do not know what freedom is. Sure we live in a country where we are supposedly free, but to have real freedom is foreign to us because we just have no clue we are slaves. Remember, Christ came so we could have life and have it more abundantly.
Again, I ask the question are you a slave to something? I pray you have really thought about this instead of just immediately answering. If you are a slave and you want freedom, then ask God for help. I can promise you that you will not be able to do this on your own, but be prepared.
