Happiness

God does not really care about your happiness.  I know that may sound mean, but would you rather be happy or saved?  Most people associate happiness with the flesh.  This may mean money, power, success, material possessions, wife, and family.

All these things are against God.  Yes we should be happy in that God sent His only son to die for our sins so that we may have eternal like with Him and Jesus.  I wish I could say that is what this post is about, but it is not.

In America, we think that we are suppose to be happy all the time, but we are not guaranteed this.  Look at the Declaration of Independence, it says the following:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

It does not say that you automatically have happiness, nor will it be granted to you, but you must pursue it.  Now did they expect people to pursue their happiness at the expense of others?  I highly doubt since most if not all believe in God and Jesus Christ.

We live in an age were we have been lied too about happiness and look where it has gotten us.  Most people associate happiness with more money/better living at any cost.  The reality is you can be happy if you will just accept God and live according to His direction. This is not to say it will be easy, but you will be happy or should I say joyful. Lets face, there will be some days where you are not happy, but you may be joyful.

Some of the happiest people I know are also the poorest or the hardest working.  These people typically rely upon God which makes them very happy.  They trust God to provide for them, to not forsake them, to protect them, etc.  I am sure they like everyone else have their ups and downs, their easy days and their very hard days, but they rely upon God heavily.

Think about Job who lost everything.   He never once blamed God, but I am sure he was not very happy, but he was joyful.  In the end, God blessed Job even more than before.

So like everything in life, is your desire happiness?  If so, I am sorry to say that you most likely will not find it.  However, If your desire is to please and love God, then I am sure you will not only find happiness, but joyfulness.  What will you choose?  By the way choosing something to gain something is not really doing it out of love, that falls under selfishness. So think about it!
