I struggle with the Democratic Party

Let me make this clear, I am a democrat, but I am having a real struggle with the attitude the democratic party has displayed and the direction is has taken.  I do believe that at one time this party was for the people of this great nation, but not so anymore.  They are no so wishy washy that it is hard to know who they really are for besides themselves.  They change direction more than any group on the planet all in an attempt to be politically correct and give this image that they care.

For some reason the democrats think it is ok to take just about everything from those who work really hard to give to those who want to do absolutely nothing.  For the life of me I cannot figure out why they think this is ok.  In a lot of the cases, a person on the welfare system can make $45,000 to $85,000 per year.  What?  That is insane.  However, they keep adding more programs so that number is likely to go up in the future.  Who pays for all of this, those people that work their butts off to provide their families with the essentials.

A person on welfare today typically eats better than most people because they have so much money to spend.  I remember an article when the government was getting ready to actually cut the system.  This person received $800 per month in food stamps.  It was herself, her grandson, and two other females all living in the house.   The two other females were 20+ years in age and. not working

She was outraged that the government was getting ready to reduce her food stamps from $800 to something like $750.  Her complaint was that she could barely afford rice on the $800 per month.  I want to know what type of rice she is buying. Most of the time these are the people that you see walking out with the really expensive food as though they are entitled to eat like the rich and famous.

People were all sympathetic towards her needs with the exception of a few people.  I have never spent $800 per month on food with my family of 4 and a son that is about 6’2″ and weighed 235 pounds.  But the real question is why was there support for 4 when the two that were 20+ could work?  They knew how to abuse the system and were allowed to do so.

Do I believe that we should be helping?  The answer is yes, but help should start at home and spread out to the community, it does not need to come from the government.  With that said, it is really just about too late to change the system.  Most people have been brought up with the belief that it is the governments responsibility to help those that are not working.  There is a key word in that sentence, help. No where does it say I should support these people for the rest of their lives.  Just to tell you all, it is not the governments responsibility to support the citizens.

There have been several proposals that if people want assistance from the government then they must contribute to society through some means.  What is the problem with that?   Why can’t we expect these people to contribute?  Yet a lot of the democrats balk at this idea.

To me it should go one further and that is you can only get to the poverty line.  If the poverty line is $25,000, then after you have worked a minimum of 10-20 hours, you can have support up to but not exceeding the $25,000 limit, but it goes further to help those that after taxes make less than $25,000.  So if a person makes $24,999 after taxes, they get $1 support and if they make $10,000 then they get $15,000 support.  If they after taxes that are due in April make over $25,000 then they must pay back to the government whatever assistance they received that put them over the $25,000 limit.

I am reminded of this passage:

Matthew 25:41-46 New International Version (NIV)

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

We are to help, but I am also reminded of this passage:

2 Thessalonians 3:6-10 New International Version (NIV)

Warning Against Idleness

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching you received from us. For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate. 10 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”

In other words we are to help, but those that want to remain idle will not eat.  People must be willing to work, but yet so many today are idle.  I blamed the democratic party, but the real enemy is Satan. He is whispering into their ears and they are listening.

Ephesians 6:12 New International Version (NIV)

12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

I just pray that people will open their eyes to see what is really going on.   With that said, I am reminded of this verse:

1 Timothy 2:1-4 New International Version (NIV)

Instructions on Worship

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

Pray that our leaders will be able to see the truth and change their course of action before it becomes too late.
