Joseph

The other day I mentioned about being offended. Lets take a look at Joseph. If anyone had a right to be offended, he did. Take some time and go read about him in Genesis 37:2-50:26

He was betrayed by his brothers who sold him into slavery to an important person in Egypt. He was later betrayed by the mans wife because she wanted him and accused him of rape and he ended up in prison. While in prison, he helped a prisoner by deciphering their dreams and was basically betrayed by that person because they forgot all about him.

Could Joseph have been offended? Yes. Was he? No. Instead he relied upon God. He did not blame his brothers when he saw them after being sold into slavery but instead he wept, he did not blame the woman for false accusations, and he did not blame the prisoner for forgetting about him.

Imagine how it would be in today’s world if we would follow the example of Joseph. Instead of becoming offended by every little thing, we accepted it as is and relied upon God because God knows the plan He has for us. Nothing happens that God does not know about.

This idea of relying to God for most of us is a very foreign concept. We would rather rely upon our own ability to get things accomplished. We would rather be offended than to forgive as though it is a sign of weakness. We want to solve all of our own problems or in other words we want to be a self made man so to speak. The problem with that is it usually leads down a path of destruction.

If you suffer from the spirit of offense, you need to pray to God. Ask Him for forgiveness. Ask Him to help you with this stronghold in your life. After all of that, you need to start living the way God has shown you. God will not necessarily remove the spirit just because you ask although that is a possibility. Instead, he will provide you a way to live the life you were supposed to live.
