Rush, Rush, Rush

I find it kind of ironic. We are told to stay home, be calm, be patient, be safe, etc. However it seems that a lot of people are in a rush and I am not really sure why. From my understanding, speeding tickets throughout the country are up and so is violence towards our fellow human.

The other day I was in a supermarket. I was walking to the produce section and this lady about ran me over with a shopping cart because she was in such a rush. I just looked at her and was wondering why.

Driving to the store today, I noticed a bunch of people going 10+ mph over the speed limit. My first thought was why are you driving so fast? Are you late for work? No. Are you late for anything? No Why No to most anything you can think of, well it has to do with the stay at home order. Even if your job is considered essential, I doubt you will be late.

Then I think about God and how He asks us to be still and know that He is God:

Psalm 46:10 New International Version (NIV)

10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth.”

We are in such a rush with our everyday lives that we do not know who God is, because we do not take the time to really know Him. God is telling us to slow down. The things that make us rush will still be there even if we take some time to know the Lord, but knowing Him will be far better for us than what the world or our flesh has to offer.

Also, if we slow down, then maybe, just maybe it will calm some of our anger. This will help us to avoid overreacting to every situation. I think of what happened in OK where a wife was offended and her husband and a friend went back and shot someone. All I have to say is WTF! What is wrong with people when they react this way.

Are you in a constant rush? Are you willing to do whatever it takes to get from point A to point B as fast as possible even if that means hurting others? Ask yourself what is that really accomplishing? Would it be better to take a deep breath or two or three and get to know God? You know what is coming next, go to God in prayer and ask for His help.
