I know I have talked about this before, but I will do so again.
Kindness: the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate .
This concept seems to have escaped us. People are no longer kind to one another. In fact they go out of there way to be the exact opposite.
Take today, I was driving home and got in the left lane to pass someone. This person sped up to intentionally keep me from getting around them. Why? It was not like I was going to get in front of them and slam on the breaks.
I can only guess as to why and it has to do with being friendly and considerate. I was taught to look out mostly for myself because the world was not going to do it. I am sure others are taught the same thing. The problem with that is, that if everyone looks out only for themselves, then everyone is being selfish.
Think about if Jesus came to earth and only looked out for Himself and said screw everyone else. They can figure out on their own how to get to Heaven. However, that is not who God is.
Titus 3:4-7 New International Version (NIV)
4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.
It hard to be kind to everyone, but that is what we are called to do. There is a difference between being kind and being taken advantage of. I am sure that if you did something because you felt like you were supposed to, that God would look favorably upon that action.
I struggle with being kind from time to time and if you do as well, ask God for help.
