Last Man Standing

About two weeks ago or so, my wife and I started watching Last Man Standing.  I like and dislike the show at the same time and that goes for all the characters on the show.

The show seems to at times criticize Christianity and it heavily criticizes our current government.  I realize that Tim Allen based on research is a die hard republican and that it seems like the right thing to do given our current President and the far left or ultra far left views. However, instead we should be praying for our leaders to make the right decisions that God would approve of, but I also understand that would not sell air time.

The show hints at the family being Christian and believing in God, but at the same time the family acts the exact opposite.  I know that this is a comedy, but when did it become widely accepted to use God or Jesus as part of comedy in a negative way.  That may not have been the intent, but at times that is how I perceive the show.

We as Christians have to be careful what we watch and hear and the direction of influence.

Romans 12:2 New International Version (NIV)

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Galatians 5:19-21 New International Version (NIV)

19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 15:33 New International Version (NIV)

33 Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”

Will I continue to watch the show, more than likely.  However, I have to be aware that this is just a show and to not let the negativity that comes across influence me.

I pray that if you are watching TV, that you understand and comprehend that what is being said and shown on TV may not be the truth.  TV shows are designed to capture your attention and influence you in ways that could lead to bad decisions.  If you are in doubt, then pray that God will give you the wisdom to see the show for what it is and fortitude to resist the temptations you observe or hear.  In Jesus name I pray for this for you, Amen.
