Love

The other day I talked about hate and how it appears to be prevalent everywhere you look. Now lets talked about love.  Why is there such little love or there appears to be little love in the world?  I do not have the answer.

Here are my speculations:

People see things as they want to see them and when another persons point of view does not align, we have a tendency to automatically say that person does not love them.  Some how we have confused love with many things and acceptance is just one of those.

Love is defined as:

1 Corinthians 13:4-7New International Version (NIV)

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

We as humans really have no idea what love is, even though God has told us through scripture and actually showed us when Christ came to earth and sacrificed His life so we may have a chance to have eternal life with both God and Christ in Heaven.

Think about that for a second whether you believe or do not.  That God would send His only Son because He loves us to die for our sins so we have a chance to live with Him forever in Heaven..  Seriously, let that sink in before you continue. If that is not the ultimate form of love then I am not sure what is.  A being who never committed sin is willing to take on all of mankind’s sin from the beginning to the end of time just so you have a chance to live eternally with God.

If everyone could simply follow what love is from the scripture above, the world would be a better place.  I know it is easy to say follow this path, but the reality is that is not so easy.  We are impatient and we are not so kind at times.  We like to boast because we get recognition.  We are proud of many things.  At times we like to bash others in order to make us feel good or important.  We are self-seeking in that we want recognition for our achievements.  We get mad or angered easily, especially with those we claim to love.  We keep a record or as the joke goes we like to get “Historical” when confronted by others about our intimate relationships.  Trust has to be earned and is easily taken away because trusting in another make us potentially vulnerable.  We will tell little “White Lies” to protect those we claim to love.  I am not sure that we delight in evil, but that is about the only one we do not violate when it comes to love. I will say that I protect those that I love, but is that was mean t here? I am willing to sacrifice my life for those that I love.

God, help us to understand what Love is.  It is not an easy concept to really understand.  It is stated throughout the Bible that you are love, but help us to really understand what this means.  Finally help us to demonstrate what love is.
