This could be due to age or poor nutrition or who knows what, but my memory these days sucks and I seem to have forgotten a lot of things. If you ask my wife, she would tell you at one time that my memory was exceptional. Now we would argue over the events that happened, but that is because we would both see and hear things slightly different.
When it all started to change, I do not recall, but I would speculate it all started 3 to 4 years ago. It could be due to the fact that I did not use certain things that were tucked away in my memory and I had to have a memory dump to make room for newer things, but I really do not know. However, here is the cool thing, it seems to come back pretty quickly when you actually start to tap into those parts of your memory that held information that you seemed to have forgotten.
What does God say about our memory? We are instructed to remember the past.
Isaiah 46:9 New International Version (NIV)
9 Remember the former things, those of long ago;
I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me.
My guess is so that we will stop repeating the same mistakes. However, how we go about it is not very clear. However, there are some verses about studying the Bible.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 New International Version (NIV)
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
One of the things for memory is to be repetitive. So by studying the word everyday, eventually the word of God will start to become second nature and make us ready for any and all things.
