Planks

Matthew 7:3-5 New International Version (NIV)

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

Just about all of us do this.  We can easily point out the mistakes others make, but we cannot see the ones we are making especially when we are pointing out others mistakes.  Why? It hurts to admit that we have problems let alone that we are blinded by them.

I know I have a problem with drivers on the road, but can I honestly say that I am the perfect driver?  The answer is no.

So why do I point out the mistakes others make and not correct my own?  Honestly, I have no idea.  If I had to guess it is because I am not getting my way and therefore I am basically throwing a little temper tantrum.

Even as Christians, we do the very same thing.  We point out others mistakes and how they are not acting like Christ, but we ignore that we too are not acting like Christ.

We first need to turn our attention to Christ and learn to emulate Him. This does not mean we keep silent about everything because we may have a plank in our eye, but we need to realize that we too may be susceptible to the very thing we are getting to talk to someone about.

All I can say is go to God with your problems and ask Him to show you the planks that are in your eyes and seek to resolve those as soon as possible so you can become a better disciple.
