Why are we trying to hold people that were 100, 200, or even 300+ years ago to today’s standards? It makes no sense
Some Americans 150+ years ago owned slaves. There is no denying that, but somehow, the politicians of today want to hold them accountable for slavery when that was an accepted practice of the time.
Do not get me wrong, I do not agree with slavery and never will. However, I also am not going to judge those that had slaves when slavery was okay at that time.
If you want to blame slavery on a nation, blame it on African. They are the ones who really started the slave trade.
In Africa, when a tribe conquered another tribe, they would take the surviving prisoners as slaves. They traded them as commodities like anything else that may have been for trade.
The white man did not enter African and take its citizens. If they tried, they were killed. There a lot of history books and battles to confirm this. What the white man did was offer something the Africans wanted in exchange for humans who would become slaves.
Now in America, there were many slave states both in the North and South. Most of the slaves in the south were on plantations picking cotton and such. In the north they were everywhere. In fact, there were more slave states and I even read there were more slaves in the north than in the south and when the government decided slavery was not longer acceptable, both sides were not happy.
The slave states in the north were forced to give up their slaves because the military essentially walked in and forced them, but in the south they rebelled. Not because of slavery although that is what it certainly looks like, but because the Federal government kept changing what it believed and wanted and was forcing the citizens to accept or else. I firmly believe the south would have eventually released all the slaves, but that is just my opinion.
In the south, I’ve read that they were more brutal towards their slaves, but who knows as I think the book I read was put out by a northerner. Lets face it, when someone is telling a story they will always make the other side look worse than they really were.
Again I believe that slavery of any kind if wrong and if you believe that too, then why aren’t you fighting the slavery that currently exists in our country and/or worldwide instead of focusing on the past that you were never part of? Why? Because you have been led down the wrong path.
Instead of focusing on the past, lets use the past to make the future a better place. In other words, lets learn from out past mistakes. Lets put an end to human/sex trafficking, forced labor of any kind, child labor, forced marriage, bonded labor, descent-based, and domestic servitude.
hese are all forms of modern slavery and our politicians need to interact with federal, state, county, and local police as well as police from other countries to reduce slavery of any kind. I say reduce, because it will never stop.
Do our politicians focus on these forms of slavery? No, because it is hard. Instead they want to pay restitution to people who were not even around during the Civil War or even 50 years after. Why? Because it is much easier to blame me and other like me for slavery and take money from my paycheck than face the reality of modern slavery.
You can never stop slavery because there will always be those people who want to enslave others because they think they have that right. Believe it or not that is happening to all of the citizens of the US but in a much more subtle way.
Now the only thing I can suggest is that you pray to God through Christ and ask Him to show you the way and the truth. You might be surprised by how much you were deceived about everything.
