I am not going to say we are in the end times, but the Bible does mention that in the end times this will happen as well as a lot of other things.
2 Timothy 3:1-5 English Standard Version (ESV)
Godlessness in the Last Days
1 But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.
Does the above verse sound familiar? It should. Look how we are treating each other and what we hold important.
Matthew 24:7 English Standard Version (ESV)
7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.
Matthew 10:21-23 Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)
21 “Brothers will turn against their own brothers and hand them over to be killed. Fathers will hand over their own children to be killed. Children will fight against their own parents and will have them killed. 22 Everyone will hate you because you follow me. But the one who remains faithful to the end will be saved. 23 When you are treated badly in one city, go to another city. I promise you that you will not finish going to all the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes again.
Are we at this stage? No. To me this is all referring to when following Christ will be declared a crime punishable by death or imprisonment.
Do I think we are far away from this? I do not know. I pray we are, but it is hard to tell these days with how people are acting.
In America, brother is rising against brother. We are hurting the very ones we say we want to support by looting, vandalizing, rioting, and killing. We hate another person for simply having slightly different political or religious beliefs. Not dislike, flat out hate the other person. They will try to harm another because of what they believe. Say what?
In other words, we have become a nation of let me hate my fellow man simply because. Now this is not 100% true. There are many people who will love you no matter what you do to them because that is Christ demands of them. They have faith in Christ and because of their love for Him, will do as He commands.
Parts of the Bible uses brother rising against brother in a negative way. The Bible is pointing out that if you are a follower of Christ there will be consequences. However, could brother rising against brother be taken in a positive way?
I believe that Christ raised up against His brothers. Not by turning them over to be killed or jailed, but by pointing out their flaws. He was not hateful in His approach, but loving to most except the Sadducee’s and Pharisees. To them He was more harsh because they were the leaders and teachers and they were leading and teaching the wrong things. They were leading God’s chosen people on a path of destruction and death. He wanted them to change their path.
So is it okay for brother to rise against brother? Well that depends on our motive. Are you trying to do God’s will or the worlds/Satans? If you do rise against your brother, is to have them put to death or is it in love to help them repent?
Just know that when you rise against another to help them in love, so may another rise against you to help you out of love as well. When this happens, recognize it for what it is, that this person who doing/saying/acting this way out of love for you because they do not want you to go to Hell.
