People do not really understand the Bible, but why is that? Is it because God wrote it cryptically? No. It is because when they are reading it, they are doing so with a closed mind and heart.
Lets face it, people read only the parts of the Bible they want to read and ignore everything that is before or after that verse or verses. When they do this, they fail to fully understand the Bible.
What do I mean by this? When you only read the parts of the Bible you want to read, then you fail to get the full message that is being conveyed. A prime example is:
Money is the root of all evil
However, the actual verse is
1 Timothy 6:10 New International Version (NIV)
10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
Money is not evil, it is the love of money. When people love money, they are willing to do whatever it takes to make it/acquire it.
While this is just a simple example of how people misquote and misunderstand the Bible, it explains why people feel that God is a liar or is not really present. In other words, learn to read each verse in its entirety in conjunction with the surrounding verses, then go do research to gather more information on the context in which it was written. Remember this is also a historical document so you need to read and understand it as it was written 2000+ years ago, not like it was written yesterday.
Do you have trouble understanding the Bible or feel it is not accurate? If so, you are not alone, but I encourage you to take the next step to really try to understand the Bible as a whole.
