Unanswered Prayers

I am sure there are a lot of people who pray to God and then get mad when He does not supposedly answer them.  There is a flaw in their analysis of God answering prayers.

God answers all prayers He hears.  The problem is that God does not always give us the answers we want.

God answers with Yes

John 15:7 New International Version (NIV)

If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

God answers with No

Isaiah 55:8 New International Version (NIV)

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
    neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.

God answers with Wait

Isaiah 40:31 New International Version (NIV)

31 but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not be faint.

However, God needs to hear your prayer first and He may not always hear it.

Psalm 66:16-20 New International Version (NIV)

16 Come and hear, all you who fear God;
    let me tell you what he has done for me.
17 I cried out to him with my mouth;
    his praise was on my tongue.
18 If I had cherished sin in my heart,
    the Lord would not have listened;
19 but God has surely listened
    and has heard my prayer.
20 Praise be to God,
    who has not rejected my prayer
    or withheld his love from me!

We are accustomed to our questions always being answered with “Yes” and we get really upset when the answer is “No”.  Somehow, we think that if someone says no, that they are rejecting us or what have you. This is especially true if God says No or Wait or does not respond because He did not hear it.

So instead of blaming God, take some time and do some research and find out why God may not be answering you at all or why He is giving you a response you do not like.  For example, what is the number one thing that everyone asks God for?  It may actually be two things, but it is typically money or love.  What is the problem with those prayer requests?  They are rooted in fulfilling your desires, not God’s.

If you want God to answer your prayer requests, then you need to have His type of thoughts and behave according to His ways.  You need to remain in Him and have His word remain in you.  Once you do this, I am sire your prayers will be answered with a resounding Yes because your prayers will have completely changed.

If God is not answering you at all, take a reality check and see if you have cherished sin in your heart.  God expects perfection, but He also understands that we are weak and that is why He sent His son.  You need to admit that you are a sinner to God and mean it.  Doing this half halfheartedly will result in your prayers still not being answered.  This will result in you still being upset and blaming God.  The problem is you, not God.
