Valentines Day

By the time this gets posted, it will be February 15th, but while I am writing it, it is February 14th.  My wife loves Valentines Day, but I think she is even starting to see the commercialization that has happened to this day.  She went to buy me a card and decided because of the cost not to do so.  She knows me well enough that I would have been more upset at her spending $8+ on a card versus us taking that money and going out to eat or a movie or whatever. Think about it, 2 cards will almost get you a movie or a dinner out.  That is just nuts.  The cost of those items that are bought for Valentines Day are anywhere from 150% to almost 1000% more than any other time of the year.

I hate this day because of how it is now treated. Companies make you feel guilty unless you take your loved one out to eat, buy them a card, get them a gift like chocolates, or buy them flowers like roses.  It is no longer a special day, but one that we are expected to follow simply because this day exists.  I do not need a special day to tell or show my wife I love her.

Ephesians 5:25-29 New International Version (NIV)

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body.

I am not going to say that I tell her everyday that I lover her, nor do I always show her.  However, I also do not need a day like February 14th to do it either.  I would much rather do it because it is the right thing to do versus being made to feel guilty or conform to the masses. I would rather surprise her when she does not expect it.
