Matthew 13:45-46 English Standard Version (ESV)
The Parable of the Pearl of Great Value
45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, 46 who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
Why does the Bible say this?
- Finding any pearl is a rarity in nature
- Finding a fine pearl I am sure is even more rare
- The merchant realized the extreme value of the fine pearl and did not need anything else in their life so they sold everything else to get that one item and now they were content.
We have to realize that the world which includes Satan does not want us to be content. It wants us to seek bigger, better, more powerful, faster, more expensive, more, more, more. In other words, the worlds does not want us to be content.
Think of salvation as being the fine pearl. Are you willing to give up everything you have that you worked so hard to get if that is what God required to be saved? If not, then you need to sit down and really think about if you want salvation.
I am not saying go and sell all your stuff, that can only from God. God does however want you to put aside the worldly things and focus on Him and putting Him first. If you do this, then you will be blessed more than you can ever imagine and does not necessarily mean material things or more money.
So I ask the question “What do you value?
