Wrong Decisions

Romans 7:15-20 New International Version (NIV)

15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.

We constantly make wrong decisions as described in the above verses.  It is not that we want to make the wrong decisions, but it is our flesh, the world, and the Devil that talk to us and entice us to make these wrong decisions.

Take the person that is addicted to anything.  Do you really think they chose to be addicted?  I do not.  I believe that if they could go back in time and change their course of actions, that most would.  However, that is not possible and we must live with the decisions we made.

Now, this is not 100% true as there are those that consciously choose to do what is evil in the eyes of the Lord.  I do not believe they were born this way, but they chose to be this way. They knew the decision they were making was the wrong one from the very beginning.

So what else does the Bible say about making wrong decisions:

James 4:17 New International Version (NIV)

17 If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.

Colossians 2:8 New International Version (NIV)

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces[a] of this world rather than on Christ.

Just remember that with wrong decisions, there are consequences.  The biggest one is:

Romans 6:23 New International Version (NIV)

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Sin is a decision we make.  We can choose to obey God or not.  After all, He gave us free-will.  We just need to decide which is more important, us or God.
