Guilty or Not

In this country we are presumed innocent until found guilty. This is unique because in many countries you are guilty until you prove yourself innocent. However, while that is how it is supposed to be, that is not how it is these days.

These days, people are tried by the news media based on what they want to show. Then we have social media which is just as bad. People on social media jump to conclusions based on the news media and often the response from this group is just horrible Once you have been tried by these two types of media, your life is over as you know it. It does not matter whether you are guilty or innocent.

Take the police officers in Minnesota. We the public do not have all the evidence/facts. We only have what has been shown and from this information which then spread through all social media forms, they have tried and found them guilty. Yet they have’t gone to court yet to actually be tried. There is no way for them to ever get a fair trial.

Now lets look at Jesus, He was accused of a crime He did not commit, He was questioned and found to be not guilty. However, the crowd based upon a few got riled up and wanted Him to be crucified. Is today really any different? The few get everyone else riled up.

So because of the public outcry, it does not really matter if the police officers are innocent, they are going to be found guilty. It is like the soccer player who got fired for what his wife posted. Now, there is one thing we are all guilty of and that is killing Christ. While we may not have been there to physically put Him on the cross, our sins were.

The only way to be forgiven of your sins and what you did to Christ is to first forgive others of what they have done to you. I know, I know, it is not an easy thing to do to let go of that debt that we think someone owes us because for many that is the only thing we know. Just imagine how much better the world would be if we would just learn to forgive.

I urge you to stop assuming people are guilty until all the evidence is in. I ask you to forgive the police officers whether they are guilty or not. I urge you to let the justice system take on the responsibility of trying these men and accepting the outcome. I urge you to take your anger, hatred, bitterness, resentment, hurt to the Lord and leave it with Him.
