Does God expect us to be perfect? The answer is yes.
Matthew 5:48 New International Version (NIV)
48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Now if you read only that passage, you would think that there is no way I can be perfect. Lets face it, we are not perfect and have not been since Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden. This is why Christ was sent. Christ was sent to die for our sins, but it is our responsibility to accept this and to act accordingly
So lets look at the entire passage:
Matthew 5:43-48 New International Version (NIV)
Love for Enemies
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
From this passage, God expects us to love everyone as He loves everyone. It is not an easy task. Lets face it, how hard is it to love someone that wants to cause you or someone you love harm? For myself, it is very hard, but God expects it from me regardless.
Do you want those that have done what is considered evil to go to Heaven? If your answer is no, then are you worthy of going to Heaven? You may think that I am not perfect, but I have not committed sins that some of the people have, but does that really matter to God? Is not sin, sin. Does it matter on the type of sin that was committed? To God the answer is no the type of sins does not matter
Also remember, that vengeance is mine saith the Lord.
Romans 12:19 New International Version (NIV)
19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.
If you are not wanting any person to go to Heaven, then you are taking vengeance upon that person instead of God. Furthermore, you will also be judged as you have judged others.
Matthew 7:2 New International Version (NIV)
2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
You can act as you see fit, but my advice is to follow the Lord ‘s instruction and love everyone.
I know this is not an easy request and if you are having problems loving people that want to cause you or anyone you know harm, then I advise you to pray and ask God for help. Just remember that God may challenge you and put you in situations that will really test your ability to love everyone as He loves.
