Doing the right thing

I recently purchased an expensive table saw that was supposed to be good built by a supposedly reputable company. The edges are shard and raised that they act like a scraper, the table top surface is wavy, there are a lot of edge chips, one of the wings has a large chip, and the company thinks this is acceptable. Then they tell me to take a 600 pound saw to the service center or do it myself. Why can’t companies just do the right thing? They do not realize that we are the one that really can make or brake a company? If you do not believe me, just know this that many companies have gone bankrupt by bad publicity.

Now God came down to earth to live among us and be tempted as we are, yet He did the right thing every time. Why can’t we?

Part of it is our sinful nature which is passed down from generation to generation. Once Adam decided that disobeying God was a better choice, that caused all of mankind and womankind to be born with sin from then on. So while we may want to do the right thing, there are times we cannot because of who we are. Does this mean we should not strive to do the right thing all the time, absolutely not.

James 4:17 New International Version (NIV)

17 If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.

James 4:7 New International Version (NIV)

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Galatians 5:19-23 New International Version (NIV)

19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

No where does it say you are excused because Satan, the world, or the flesh has driven you to sin and not do the right thing. I know this is a struggle for all of us, but we all need to strive to do the right thing. If this an area you struggle with, then I urge you to take this to the Lord. Seek alone time with God and pray and ask Him for help.
