There is nothing like being around family for Christmas. My son went to Upstate New York where there was like 3 feet of snow and it was pretty cold. While he made it home for Christmas, we were not actually sure he was.
My wife and I decided that he got himself up there and he could get himself home. He wanted us to drive 5 hours to pick him up and we said no. He found a ride with a trucker friend that got him to within 1 hour of us. While that was not ideal either, we agreed to go get him.
While it was a bit painful to have him so far away, he is a grown man and can do as he wishes. However, can you imagine what it must have been like for Jesus and God. While Jesus is God, He also came down in human form to experience everything that we do. He was with the Lord, but also very far away from the Lord. I know that does not make sense, but Jesus was in every sense human. he could bleed, be injured, fall in love, be tempted, etc. Jesus committed no sins, but ultimately became sin. It is stated that God cannot look upon sin
Habakkuk 1:13 New International Version (NIV)
13 Your eyes are too pure to look on evil;
you cannot tolerate wrongdoing.
Why then do you tolerate the treacherous?
Why are you silent while the wicked
swallow up those more righteous than themselves?
If I take this passage, then God essentially abandoned Jesus while He was in human form. As soon as Jesus entered Hell, I believe that all sin was left there and hence Jesus was no longer sin. This also gave Jesus time to preach to those that were already in Hell. Once He was resurrected, Jesus was no longer sin and as such he could rise to sit at the right hand of the father.
I can only imagine what it must have been like for Father and Son to be reunited. There must have been rejoicing in Heaven. This is how I think others feel when their children come back from a mini vacation to Upstate New York, back from military service, or back into the lives of those that love them.
Is there a family member that you feel like they are lost or not present in your life? Have you asked why? Have you tried to reach out to them in a loving way? Do you want them back in your life? If no, why not? Is there something so special about you that you do not want a member of your family back in your life?
Lets face it, people are a pain in the butt to deal with and this is not going to be an easy task for most of us. However, for some you will have no problem, but for the rest of us we need to rely upon God for help. First, take time to be with God. Pray to God and ask Him for help.
