I’ve noticed recently that older people just seem grumpy. This really is nothing new as I also noticed this back in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and even 2000’s. However, it just seems to have gotten worse with time.
Do I blame these people, no. For the most part, it seems like everyone that is not considered old wants older people to go away as though they have nothing to offer society. Anyone that has ever hung around older people knows that this is not true. These people have so much to offer in the way of stories, knowledge, experience, love, caring, and general understanding of how things work. Now of course they are oblivious in other areas such as technology, but that is ok.
I brought this topic up because I have noticed that I am becoming a Grumpy Old Man. Not really sure why, but I think part of it is the world around me is changing and not for the better. You can argue that this is my opinion and I cannot dispute that, but here is what I have observed about people in this day and age:
- They are more rude today
- They are more selfish today
- They only care about money or scamming others or scamming the government systems
- They are oblivious to their surroundings
- They spend money very foolishly
- They think they can do what they want, when they want, and how they want without consequences for their actions
- The think murdering unborn children is acceptable
- They have basically rejected Jesus and God in favor of science
- They think that same sex marriage and every other amoral behavior is acceptable
There is one thing that they have promoted and that is equality. We are all the same in God’s eyes. We are all sinners
Romans 3:23 New International Version (NIV)
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
So they are right in that we are equal.
Now I did not start this to bash the younger generation, but to explain me and hopefully help anyone that may be like me. I am in my 50’s and I feel like I am getting grumpier by the day or at least it feels that way at times. Do I want to be grumpy? Absolutely not, but I know that I cannot do it on my own. I need Jesus and God to help me to become a new person. One that loves my neighbor as I love myself and wants to see everyone introduced to a loving God.
