While God wants us to fellowship, He also wants some alone time with you. While God knows us, it is hard to have a relationship with Him if we never spend time with Him.
Jesus would routinely spend time with God alone.
Matthew 14:13 New International Version (NIV)
Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand
13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns.
Mark 1:35 New International Version (NIV)
Jesus Prays in a Solitary Place
35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
Mark 14:32-34 New International Version (NIV)
Gethsemane
32 They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33 He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. 34 “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.”
Luke 5:16 New International Version (NIV)
16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
John 6:15 New International Version (NIV)
15 Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.
There are other instances of Jesus going off by Himself to spend time with God. So if Jesus does this, are we better than He that we do not have to? I would take a wild guess and say no. Why then do we not spend time alone with God?
As I have mentioned in the past, we are just way to busy to give God the time of day and He should fully understand that and work around our schedule. Sorry that was Sarcasm. Yes we are busy, but are we really to busy for God?
If you said “yes”, then all I have to say is “wow!”. I pray that your answer was no and that you are actively seeking to be alone with God, but if you are not then it is never too late to change.
First you need to ask yourself do you really want a relationship with God? Some of you will say no, some will be unsure and some will say definitely. To those that do, what are you bringing to this relationship? Are you expecting God to work on your time or His? Are you doing everything you know to do?
To those that are unsure, why? Do you think that a relationship with God is a bad thing? Do you think you have done something so awful that God will not forgive you; therefore, He would never want to have a relationship with you? Are you unsure if God exists? All I have to say is give it a try. When you are by yourself sometime, just talk to Him with an open heart and then be patient. However, the choice is yours.
For those that do not want to have a relationship with God, again why? There are just so many possibilities that it is nearly impossible to ask all the questions. I know it may not seem like it at times, but God loves you as He loves all of us. He does not want you to perish, but wants you to be with Him forever. You may be thinking that God has hurt you in someway, but that is not the case. As before, take sometime and be alone with God. However, the choice is yours.
