John 4:14 New International Version (NIV)
14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
Everyone is thirsting for something. Be it love, acceptance, peace, happiness/joy, security, purpose, and hope. However, we typically find it in all the wrong places. We go after money, sex, drugs, alcohol, power, and possessions.
Solomon said it best:
Ecclesiastes 1:2 New International Version (NIV)
2 “Meaningless! Meaningless!”
says the Teacher.
“Utterly meaningless!
Everything is meaningless.”
What Solomon was saying is that what we go after in life such as power, money, possessions, sex, etc., is meaningless. We need to be seeking God and helping our fellow man with the essentials of life such as food, clothing, and shelter.
Christ in John 4:14 is referring to Himself being the Living Water. If we take in Christ, then our Spiritual Thirst will be quenched. We often feel unsatisfied and are constantly looking around to fill that hole and have some kind of meaning in our life and that is more than likely Spiritual Thirst.
Instead of trying to fill the Spiritual hole with Christ or God, we fill it with worldly stuff. Life would be so much simpler in this respect if we would simply fill it with the right stuff. This means rejecting the worldly stuff and accepting Christ and living how God wants us to live.
This is where it gets difficult. The world will hate you because of Christ, they will reject you because it does not go along with their belief, they will make fun of you for believing in something you cannot see or touch.
You have the choice to continue to live as you are and stuff thing after that thing into the empty hole and never feeling as though you are whole or you could decide that the only way to really be satisfied is to follow Christ. I know at times I have that empty feeling, but then it is as though a little voice in my head goes what are you doing. All this crap you are doing or wanting is not the way. Go to Him and He will fill you up in ways that you can never imagine and you will never be thirsty again.
