Curbing the sugar craving can be very difficult. If it were easy, then everyone who is addicted to the stuff that wanted to quit would be able too without difficulty. However, the reality is this stuff alters body chemistry just like any drug, but there are things that can be done.
Some say to drink more water or eat fruit or eat more protein or get more magnesium and definitely stay away from the artificial sweeteners. Some will tell you to just quit cold turkey. Others will tell you to quit slowly. Yet others will tell you to keep busy to keep your mind and body occupied or chew gum. Finally, some will tell you to have a cheat day.
Do they all work? Yes and no.
I have done the cheat day and it is hard the next few days to stay away from sugar. My suggestion is to slowly cut sugar and other carbs out of your system for about a week and then fast for about week if possible. During your fasting, drink plenty of water and broth to keep you hydrated. Before fasting or doing anything else I recommend, check with your doctor.
Once you have finished fasting, eat foods that are easy to digest such as eggs or fish with easy to digest veggies, but stay away from vegetables that contain a lot of sugar or starch. Do this for a few days, then proceed to some other foods.
Try to stay away from foods that contain simple carbs. It is my belief that if you eat a lot of carb type foods such as fruit or root vegetables or whole grain type foods or beans, that you will end back where you were started, but probably worse.
Before you jump all over me, we really do not need beans or fruit or whole grains to survive. You can get all your vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and amino acids from vegetables and meats. If
I also urge you to get physical and drink about a gallon of water per day. When I exercise, I typically am not hungry during and for sometime afterwards and drinking water helps crave those hunger feelings.
Furthermore, when I am really busy doing something, I have been known to go almost all day without eating because I am just occupied. This leads me to believe that many of us eat out of boredom.
I pray that my suggestions help you, but realize, they are just my suggestions. As I have already mentioned, go talk to your personal physician before doing this or anything else I or others may recommend.
As always, I also urge you to pray and ask God for help. He may reveal to you another path that He wants you to take.
