The Ninety Nine

Matthew 18:12-14 New International Version (NIV)

12 “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? 13 And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. 14 In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.

Based on how we live our lives today and what we are told, would you go after the one or would you just stick with the ninety nine thinking that the loss of one was no big deal? Most people would cut their losses and save the ninety nine versus going after the one and risking losing the others. What if you are the one?  Would you want someone to come after you?

God expects us to go after the one.  While we are not Jesus and therefore we cannot save anyone, we can at least introduce them to Christ through our actions and words.  However, instead of it really being one, it is millions.

Now if you are saying the one that is lost is not worth saving, then what does that really say about you?  This is were we want to judge people to decide if they are worthy of salvation.  The reality is that none of us are really worthy, but through God’s grace, He has provided a way.

So do not think that your sin is less than another persons.  Rather, think I have sinned and what can I do to rectify that. Sin is sin and God cannot be in the presence of sin.

So I ask again, if you are the one that is lost, would you want to be saved?  If the answer is yes, then don’t you think we should help those that are lost by introducing them to Christ?
